How do I apply for WBTL 2024

HOW TO APPLY

We ask for a writing sample of no more than 1000 words OR simply a letter, describing what inspires you to join the workshop and what you’d most like to get from the experience. Please don’t over-worry your writing sample, or letter. And don’t worry that you’re not a “real” writer. Some of the most exciting writing to come out of Write by the Lake over the years has been created by women who did not call themselves writers. They simply had a story to tell and the courage to look honestly and unblinkingly at their lives.

Send your sample to the workshop coordinator Gina Alligood at writewithjoycemaynard@gmail.com. She’ll forward all applications to Joyce, but she’ll also be available to answer questions (and as an alumna of Write by the Lake who has travelled to Guatemala, she can answer most of them.)

Once accepted in the workshop, each writer will be asked to submit a longer manuscript of up to 2500 words—or a letter—to serve as the basis of discussion of her story.
