PARTNERS IN PIE for
PARTNERS IN HEALTH

GOAL: 10,000 USD in donations by 3/31/10
TOTAL: $10,555 (updated 9:00 pm EST, 3/31)
WE EXCEEDED OUR GOAL! THANK YOU.
For those who attended Joyce's Open House Pie Day at her home on 3/28, we thank you for your energy and support. It was a delicious afternoon, and the ticket "price" of $100 (donated directly to PIH via their website) helped us exceed our goal of 10,000 USD.
Anyone who did not attend the Pie Day, but would still like to add their two cents (or more!) to this initiative, we thank you for wanting to join with us in giving to the very worthy non-profit organization, Partners In Health. PIH was created by a heroic individual--Dr. Paul Farmer--who has been running a clinic in the mountains of Haiti for years, bringing first-world health care to third-world people. (Read more about Farmer in Tracy Kidder's book, Mountains Beyond Mountains.)
If you still want to donate (anytime before midnight on 3/31), we ask that you make your donation directly to PIH, and then send an email to Melissa with your charitable donation receipt attached to your note (please write "Partners in Pie" in subject heading). We are keeping track of those who donate under the PARTNERS IN PIE INITIATIVE, so if you do not want your name and/or donation amount listed, please indicate that in your email. For a list of donors, please see the list below.
Donate $500 and receive an autographed copy of Joyce's newest novel, Labor Day (which has quite a bit to say about pie-making).
Stand with us as we stand with Haiti.

To learn more about PIH and how the world is responding to the crisis in Haiti, please watch the PBS series FRONTLINE, which airs The Quake 3/30 at 9:00 pm in most locations (check your local listings). This episode investigates the efforts of those responsible for handling the catastrophic January 12 earthquake in Haiti. Correspondent Martin Smith bears witness to the unprecedented scale of the disaster and takes viewers on a searing and intimate journey into Port-au-Princes' spontaneous settlements, hospitals, and broken neighborhoods in this hour-long documentary. The Quake questions Haiti's prospects for real change during this pivotal period, drawing on interviews from a number of experts, including PIH co-founder Paul Farmer; Louise Ivers, PIH's Clinical Director for Haiti; and PIH physician David Walton.
